Meet Bárbara

In March 2025, I was honored to be appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp as Georgia’s 11th Labor Commissioner, making history as our state’s first Latina constitutional officer. This role is not just a title — it’s a profound responsibility to serve the hardworking men and women of Georgia, and I embrace it with unwavering dedication.
Every day, I am inspired by the boundless freedom and opportunity that define our nation. As a first-generation American, I stand as a testament to what’s possible in this great state — proudly serving Georgia, driving meaningful change and empowering every corner of our state to thrive.
My roots run deep in Georgia, and my commitment to its people is unshakable. I’ve been on the front lines of facilitating job creation, attracting investment and expanding opportunities for our communities. As Commissioner, it is my mission to lead the Georgia Department of Labor into a transformative era — one that builds trust, fosters collaboration, enhances service delivery and ensures prosperity for all.
From implementing cutting-edge strategies that streamline services to advancing workforce development and connecting Georgians to life-changing opportunities, I want you to know this:
I will never stop fighting for you.
Through innovation, partnership and relentless hard work, we will achieve real results that pave the way for a stronger, more prosperous Georgia — one that future generations will be proud to call home.
Let’s do this, Georgia!
